Alan Purnell

Landscape has dominated the life and art of Alan, both from early years raised in Papua New Guinea and since 1974 when he moved to Pine Mountain west of Brisbane in Australia. Primarily a representational artist, he works in various mediums; oils, acrylic, watercolour and pastel. However large realist landscapes in oil and acrylic are most typically what he is known for.

Awards

His first award and first competition in the professional arena was awarded by the Director of the Queensland Art Gallery in 1982 and since 1983 he has won numerous awards and prizes, some 39 in 1986 alone, for various mediums and subjects in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, regional centres throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Since 1988 he rarely enters competitions, preferring to exhibit in galleries or his own studio in Ipswich.
